About the art
What is Kobudo?
Kobudo is the Okinawan art of the traditional weapons. Its best-known tools - the six-foot bo, the three-pronged sai, the side-handled tonfa, the nunchaku and the kama sickle - are practised through kihon, kata and paired drills, and most clubs teach them alongside karate, with the same stances and bows.
Each weapon has its own kata, from Shushi no Kon for the bo to Tsuken Shitahaku no Sai and Kanegawa no Nichogama for the kama. Students grade through kyu grades to shodan, often with a kobudo grade held next to their karate belt.

Kobudo dojos often ask
We teach kobudo inside our karate club. Can we use both?
Yes. Add Kobudo as a second style in your club settings and both catalogues sit side by side, with separate syllabuses and gradings if you want them.
Can we add our own association's kata?
Yes. The library covers the common core; add your own kata and techniques as custom techniques and they work everywhere the built-in ones do.
Can we use our own syllabus and grades?
Yes. The starter ladder is only a starting point. Rename grades, change colours, add your own requirements and set the lessons and time each grade needs.
Can one club teach more than one martial art?
Yes. Choose a main martial art when you create your club and add others in the club settings. Each keeps its own technique library.
Can you move our students across from our current system?
Yes. Import students from a spreadsheet and check every row before it is saved, or send us your records and we will move them across for you free of charge.
How much does it cost?
Small clubs can use the Free plan with no card required. Paid plans add capacity and features as your club grows.
