About the art
What are Iaido and Jodo?
Iaido is the art of drawing the Japanese sword and cutting in a single movement, then clearing the blade and returning it to the scabbard. It is practised alone, through set forms against an imagined opponent, with a blunt practice sword (iaito), and every form begins and ends with formal etiquette.
Jodo is the art of the four-foot staff, the jo, used against a partner holding a wooden sword. In the UK both are graded by the British Kendo Association through kyu and dan grades, and most clubs learn the twelve standard iaido forms (Seitei Iai) and the twelve standard jodo forms (Seitei Jodo).

Sword or jo in the Combo Builder
Choose the sword and each combination follows the shape of a form: free the blade, draw and cut, clear it and resheathe. Choose the jo for strikes, thrusts and parries against the sword.
Kyu and dan gradings
Start from the British Kendo Association kyu and dan grades, with the minimum time between dan grades already set, and record each student's progress.

Questions
Iaido and Jodo dojos often ask
Our club teaches iaido and jodo on different nights. Can we keep them apart?
Yes. Run a class and a syllabus for each, and choose the sword or the jo in the Combo Builder so each combination belongs to one art.
Do you cover our koryu forms?
The library covers the standard forms graded by the British Kendo Association. Add your school's koryu forms and techniques as custom techniques and they work everywhere the built-in ones do.
Can we use our own syllabus and grades?
Yes. The starter ladder is only a starting point. Rename grades, change colours, add your own requirements and set the lessons and time each grade needs.
Can one club teach more than one martial art?
Yes. Choose a main martial art when you create your club and add others in the club settings. Each keeps its own technique library.
Can you move our students across from our current system?
Yes. Import students from a spreadsheet and check every row before it is saved, or send us your records and we will move them across for you free of charge.
How much does it cost?
Small clubs can use the Free plan with no card required. Paid plans add capacity and features as your club grows.
