About the art
What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu developed in Brazil in the early twentieth century from the judo and jujutsu taught by Mitsuyo Maeda, and was refined by the Gracie family into a ground-fighting system in which a smaller person can control and submit a larger one. Training is built around positions - guard, mount, side control and the back - and the passes, sweeps, escapes and submissions that move between them.
Academies teach in the gi and without it (no-gi), and live rolling is part of most classes. Adults progress through white, blue, purple, brown and black belts, with stripes in between, and promotions usually depend on time on the mats as much as on technique.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academies often ask
Can we record stripes as well as belts?
Yes. Grades are yours to define, so an academy can add stripes as grades between belts and set the classes and time each one needs.
Can we run gi and no-gi classes on the same timetable?
Yes. Set up each class on the timetable, take registers for each, and every class counts towards the student's attendance.
Can we use our own syllabus and grades?
Yes. The starter ladder is only a starting point. Rename grades, change colours, add your own requirements and set the lessons and time each grade needs.
Can one club teach more than one martial art?
Yes. Choose a main martial art when you create your club and add others in the club settings. Each keeps its own technique library.
Can you move our students across from our current system?
Yes. Import students from a spreadsheet and check every row before it is saved, or send us your records and we will move them across for you free of charge.
How much does it cost?
Small clubs can use the Free plan with no card required. Paid plans add capacity and features as your club grows.
