Driving side thrust kick using the heel
Key steps
- Lift the knee across the body and turn the hips side-on so the heel can line up behind the thrust.
- Drive the heel straight through the target using the hip and supporting leg to create a pushing action.
- Keep the upper body disciplined and resist leaning too far away from the kick.
- Recoil back to chamber and return to stance in balance immediately after the thrust.
Coaching points
- Keep the supporting leg strong and stable.
- Chamber and re-chamber the kicking leg cleanly.
- Do not sacrifice posture just to reach higher.
