Backward elbow strike fired behind the body line
Key steps
- Sense the target behind you and keep your feet grounded before throwing the strike.
- Rotate the torso just enough to clear the line and drive the elbow backward with the point of the elbow leading.
- Keep the chest lifted and avoid pitching forward, because the power should come from the body turn and hip drive.
- Bring the elbow back in quickly and re-square to the target line so you do not leave your back exposed.
Coaching points
- Keep the strike tight so the elbow stays the main contact point.
- Use hip rotation instead of a loose arm swing.
- Recover straight back into guard after impact.
