Punch delivered with a vertical fist alignment

Key steps

  1. Set a balanced stance and align the fist vertically with the thumb side facing upward.
  2. Punch straight down the center line while keeping the elbow close and the wrist stacked behind the striking surface.
  3. Use the hips to support the thrust but avoid over-rotating the forearm, because the fist should stay vertical at impact.
  4. Recover to guard smoothly and keep the shoulders relaxed so the next technique can follow without delay.

Coaching points

  • Let the hips and stance drive the punch rather than the shoulder alone.
  • Keep the elbow line tight so the strike travels straight.
  • Return the opposite hand with intent to finish the technique cleanly.
