Dropping Block
Otoshi Uke
Downward dropping block crashing onto the attacking arm
Key steps
- Raise the chamber so the blocking arm is ready to drop onto the attacking line with weight and structure.
- Drive the forearm downward with the body behind it, letting the stance and hips add force to the dropping motion.
- Keep the elbow slightly bent and the shoulder relaxed so the block lands heavy without jamming the joint.
- Settle at the end of the drop in a balanced stance and be ready to continue immediately.
Coaching points
- Use the whole body to support the block, not just the arm.
- Keep the blocking shape compact and efficient.
- Finish balanced and ready to counter.
