Pressing Block
Osae Uke
Pressing block pinning the opponent???s limb downward
Key steps
- Place the blocking hand above or beside the attacking limb so you can press it down with control.
- Drive the hand or forearm downward using body weight and stance support instead of just pushing with the shoulder.
- Keep the elbow slightly bent and the contact stable so the pressing action pins the line rather than bouncing off it.
- Finish with the attack controlled low and the opposite hand ready to strike immediately.
Coaching points
- Use the whole body to support the block, not just the arm.
- Keep the blocking shape compact and efficient.
- Finish balanced and ready to counter.
