Flowing Parry

Nagashi Uke

Soft flowing parry that guides the attack away

TechniqueBlocksIntermediateKarate

Key steps

  1. Settle into stance with the shoulders relaxed so the block can flow rather than collide head-on.
  2. Parry the attack off the center line using a small guiding action of the forearm and body angle.
  3. Keep the movement soft but deliberate, adding just enough contact to redirect the strike without chasing it.
  4. End in balance with the attack moved aside and your body already organized for the counter.

Coaching points

  • Use the whole body to support the block, not just the arm.
  • Keep the blocking shape compact and efficient.
  • Finish balanced and ready to counter.
