Flowing Parry
Nagashi Uke
Soft flowing parry that guides the attack away
Key steps
- Settle into stance with the shoulders relaxed so the block can flow rather than collide head-on.
- Parry the attack off the center line using a small guiding action of the forearm and body angle.
- Keep the movement soft but deliberate, adding just enough contact to redirect the strike without chasing it.
- End in balance with the attack moved aside and your body already organized for the counter.
Coaching points
- Use the whole body to support the block, not just the arm.
- Keep the blocking shape compact and efficient.
- Finish balanced and ready to counter.
