Axe Kick

Rising and dropping axe kick using the heel

Key steps

  1. Lift the kicking leg high with the knee leading so the heel can rise above the intended target.
  2. Extend the leg upward first, then drop the heel down through the target on a straight or slightly arcing line.
  3. Keep the standing leg stable and the core engaged so the body does not tip backward during the lift.
  4. Recover with control after the downward drop and return to a safe balanced stance.

Coaching points

  • Keep the supporting leg strong and stable.
  • Chamber and re-chamber the kicking leg cleanly.
  • Do not sacrifice posture just to reach higher.
