Rising and dropping axe kick using the heel
Key steps
- Lift the kicking leg high with the knee leading so the heel can rise above the intended target.
- Extend the leg upward first, then drop the heel down through the target on a straight or slightly arcing line.
- Keep the standing leg stable and the core engaged so the body does not tip backward during the lift.
- Recover with control after the downward drop and return to a safe balanced stance.
Coaching points
- Keep the supporting leg strong and stable.
- Chamber and re-chamber the kicking leg cleanly.
- Do not sacrifice posture just to reach higher.
