Punch rising upward through the centre line
Key steps
- Begin close enough that an upward punch makes sense and keep the elbow tucked near the ribs.
- Drive from the legs and hips as the fist rises through the center line toward the chin or underside of the target.
- Keep the path compact so the punch lifts sharply rather than looping out wide, and avoid lifting the shoulder toward the ear.
- Recover the hand to guard quickly and reset your posture underneath the strike before moving again.
Coaching points
- Let the hips and stance drive the punch rather than the shoulder alone.
- Keep the elbow line tight so the strike travels straight.
- Return the opposite hand with intent to finish the technique cleanly.
